Welcome to older news about Wooden Clamps!
The site is dedicated
to those who collect, use, sell, study, or just like all wooden
clamps, and related hand tools. The focus is on factory made
items, rather than individually made. However, some information
on individuals is available.
Here is what is new or changed in 2008 Quarter 3:
- (2008 07 07)Obtained a clamp of an unidentifiable maker or
dealer; with the help of the Tom Holloway, aGaloot on the porch , determined
that it is a Stanley, bearing a mark dated to 1869-1874, the so-called "E" logo.
- Visited Plymouth Plantations in Plymouth, MA, and had a chat
with Peter
Follansbee, joiner. His work is way before handscrews, but he
introduced me to a remarkable book: the following book from 1688,
which is completely contemporaneous with Moxon: "The
academy of armory, or, A storehouse of armory and blazon
containing the several variety of created beings, and how born in
coats of arms, both foreign and domestick : with the instruments
used in all trades and sciences, together with their their terms
of art : also the etymologies, definitions, and historical
observations on the same, explicated and explained according to
our modern language : very usefel [sic] for all gentlemen,
scholars, divines, and all such as desire any knowledge in arts
and sciences" by Randle Holme. The book contains hundreds of
drawings of objects used in coats of arms, .
